October - Healthy Living

Why start October with "Health Living?"

Typically, in October we start with Halloween Candy. I have a sweet tooth, and I can put away ALL those little chocolates. BEFORE October, I've already started on the pumpkin treats. Midway through September, I have usually had multiple PSLs, pumpkin scones, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin cookies. Last year I ate a pumpkin poptart from a local bakery, YUM! In November it is gravy and stuffing and continued pumpkin treats. December is holiday cookies, cakes, candies, pies. I love to eat, and I'm a binge eater. I usually gain about 5 pounds the last quarter of the year. While the winter clothes hide my nice and fluffy body, my clothes don't feel cozy because they are so tight!

About 6 years ago I started following Rachel Hollis! Rachel is a personal development leader, and she encourages her community to double their focus on health in "The Last 90 Days" challenge. Imagine if, instead of indulging during the holiday season, you made significant progress in your health. Then on January 1, you already have the momentum to accelerate your New Year’s Resolutions. I love this perspective. I am not doing all the steps of her challenge, but I am keeping in my mind the idea that I should use this time well.

In this month's blog, I will cover a new topic of Health Living each week:

1. Drink LOTS Water

2. Eat LOTS Fruits & Veggies

3. Supplements

4. Eat LOTS of protein

Bonus Post: Binge Eating

I will still allow myself to eat pumpkin treats during this time, but in moderation. I am making my own challenge called “Fit by 40.” I turn 40 years old in January. I want to start my forties in the best shape ever.

Trigger warning: diet culture is unhealthy. If these conversations are triggering for you and bringing up difficult emotions, please care for yourself by refraining from this content. I love you and I support you.
